World War 1 Medical Certificate 1917

This is the face side of Cecil Withers WWI medical certificate at the beginning of the war . This certificate shows that he was examined in Bristol on 3 July 1917, and received an A1 classification. The certificate was stamped by the Medical Recruiting Board in Narrow Wine Street Bristol .
The reverse side of this certificate states the following about Cecil : Residing at 28 Ashgrove Avenue , Ashley Down , Bristol ; Height : 5 ft 6.5 ins ; Age : 18.
Cecil was discharged from the army with a C3 classification. A shell exploded behind him, leaving him with a shrapnel wound in the back of his head ( below the left ear ). Being gassed also impacted his health . In the 1920's when he applied for the RAF his application was refused on medical grounds.
