Map of the Battle of Bapaume August 1918
Details:
This book belonged to Cecil and Olive Withers and was marked by them to denote the places where Cecil and George were injured.
The top bit of writing on the right hand side of the map reads as follows: ' . Spot where Cecil fell Aug /18 '. The marking is to the right hand side of Bapaume , just above Bancourt but below Fremicourt . ( Cecil was hit in the back of the head by a piece of shrapnel from an exploding shell ) . The bottom bit of writing reads as follows: ' x Spot where George fell 27/9/18 '. The map is marked with an x to the left of Marcoing.
A hand written page marker reads as follows: 'The spot(s) where George ( and Cecil ) fell // Next stop Stoke-on-Trent Hospital ' .
